Unforgettable Jordan holidays
Our Jordan tours take you on an extraordinary historical journey through a magical destination, whose sights will leave you speechless. Jordan is a land of ancient marvels, home to epic desert landscapes, one of the modern wonders of the world, and warm, welcoming people.
Even seasoned travellers will be wowed by the unmatched range of attractions in this beautiful desert kingdom – in what other country can you enjoy colonnaded Roman streets, scale dramatic Crusader fortresses, see Byzantine mosaics, or gaze at the view from the spot where Moses was believed to have surveyed the Promised Land?
Not forgetting the highlight of all Jordan holidays, exploring the ancient site of Petra, the bewitching rose red city that was lost to view for centuries. Buried beneath the desert sands and only rediscovered in 1812, this is the jewel in Jordan’s crown, where the changing light dances on this vast rocky landscape.
On our Jordan tours, you’ll see for yourselves how the country’s history is interwoven with its natural treasures too, as you experience the famous buoyancy of the Dead Sea and the burnt orange sands of Wadi Rum, along with a chance to explore the capital Amman, built across seven hills.

What our experts love about Jordan tours
During the Jordanian Spring the deserts and cities become awash with colour from wildflowers and fruit tree blossom. Experiencing the ancient site of Jerash with a carpet of vivid yellow flowers is a spectacle that will remain within my memories forever.
What are the best places to visit in Jordan?
Petra
A visit to the beguiling ‘Rose Red City’, as the ancient city of Petra is known, is an unmissable highlight of all Jordan tours. Lost beneath the shifting desert sands for centuries until it was rediscovered in 1812, this Nabatean site dates back around 2,000 years, making it one of the world’s oldest cities. Chosen by UNESCO as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, its spectacular temple, Treasury and Monastery were hewn out of solid rock, alongside other sites to discover once you emerge from the Siq, the winding entry route leading through a 1.2km gorge.

Wadi Rum
This timeless corner of the desert has been home to Bedouin tribes for around 5,000 years, its otherworldly orange-red sands and rock making a striking contrast to Jordan’s blue skies. Also known as the Valley of the Moon, carved out of sandstone and granite rock, a visit epitomises the romance of the desert. Find ancient petroglyphs hidden away and look out for locations used to film classic movie, Lawrence of Arabia, before losing yourself in the vastness of the empty landscape.

Madaba
Once a flourishing Byzantine town, Madaba is most famous for its astonishing mosaics. The highlight is the fascinating 6th-century mosaic map in the town’s Greek Orthodox Church showing the surrounding area stretching as far as Lebanon and Egypt. Set on an ancient highway from Amman to Aqaba, the town is mentioned in the Bible and is easy to combine with a visit to Mount Nebo, the spot where Moses is said to have surveyed the Promised Land.

Amman
The country’s capital since 1921, Amman can be overlooked on Jordan tours, thanks to the competition from the other memorable sights. But the city has plenty of its own attractions to discover. Built on seven hills, you can find remains from the Roman, Greek and Ottoman empires dotted around the city, including the Roman theatre in the city centre, as well as the Citadel atop one of the hills. Drink in the sights, sounds and smells of the souq or mingle with locals in Al Balad, the city’s downtown heart before checking out some of Amman’s many bars and restaurants.

More information about Jordan
Is Jordan expensive?
Jordan is one of the more expensive countries in the region, especially compared to Egypt, although still cheaper than neighbouring states like the UAE, or compared to the UK, USA and much of Western Europe. Joining one of our Jordan touring holidays makes it easier to budget as flights, accommodation, many meals and excursions are already included.
What language is spoken in Jordan?
Arabic is the official language of Jordan, although you’ll find many people speak some English in major tourist destinations as well as in the capital Amman.
Do I need a visa to travel to Jordan?
Yes, currently UK citizens need a visa to travel to Jordan – if you’re travelling on Titan’s Jordan with Ancient Petra tour, the visa is included. Otherwise, tourists are encouraged to apply for the Jordan Pass online, which includes the cost of the visa as well as other discounts, or visitors can also get a single entry visa on arrival at the airport. Requirements can change, though – for the most up-to-date information on visas, please use the quick-check tool on our visa requirements page.
What currency is used in Jordan?
The official currency of Jordan is the Jordanian Dinar, which is divided into 100 qirsh (or piastres). Current coins include 1 qirsh, 5 piastres, 10 piastres, a quarter dinar and a half dinar. Notes include 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 dinars.
Is Jordan a safe place to travel?
Jordan is one of the safest countries in the Middle East, with a reputation for being peaceful in a conflicted region. The crime rate has been steadily falling in recent years as well.
What is the climate like in Jordan?
Around 90% of Jordan is covered by desert, so temperatures tend to be warm and dry. Summers can be extremely hot, especially around the Red Sea, Dead Sea and Amman, so if you’re considering when is the best time to visit Jordan, stick to spring and autumn, from March-May and September-November. Winter can be very cold at night in the desert, especially if you’re sleeping in Wadi Rum, while temperatures can drop below freezing in the capital too.
Is it safe to drink tap water in Jordan?
While tap water is drinkable and fine to use for cleaning your teeth, it can sometimes have a metallic or saline taste so you may be better sticking to bottled water to stay hydrated. Some four-star and five-star hotels will have their own water purification system to remove the taste. Outside the cities, sticking to bottled water is usually safer as well.
What is Jordanian food like?
Much of the food in Jordan is similar to other Middle Eastern countries, including dips such as hummus, tabbouleh, falafel, shawarma and flatbreads. Other traditional dishes to try include mansaf, minced lamb and rice rolled in cabbage leaves and cooked, and fuul, a dip made from beans. You’ll find plenty of vegetarian dishes but otherwise meat (excluding pork) is more popular than fish. Desserts include fresh fruit and sticky sweets, while alcohol is readily available in most places.
How welcoming is Jordan to LGBTQ travellers?
Jordan is one of the most progressive countries for LGBTQ travellers, and homosexuality was decriminalized in 1951, although there is still a stigma attached for most Jordanians. Jordanian society is also very conservative and public displays of affection are frowned upon for all couples. There is a limited and low-key queer scene in Amman.
Do I need to tip in Jordan?
Yes, tipping is customary in most situations. While a service charge may be added in restaurants, it’s common to leave an additional tip for waiting staff, up to around 10-15%. Your tour manager can advise on tips for drivers and guides; you can also find suggested amounts in our useful information sheet, which will be sent to you before you travel.
