Dazzling New York tours
New York, New York. So good they named it twice. And whether you’re looking for arts, culture, food or shopping, the city that never sleeps has something to make all your New York holidays memorable.
The Big Apple’s beating heart, Manhattan, is the unmissable start of any New York tours, soaking up the electric buzz of the streets to the eagle’s eye views of iconic landmarks such as the towering Rockefeller Centre, Empire State Building and Lady Liberty herself, the symbolic State of Liberty statue you’ve seen countless times on screen.
Escape the bustle in the green oasis of Central Park or embrace the bright lights before catching an award-winning Broadway show. Gourmets can indulge at some of the world’s best restaurants or get a true taste of New York with a hotdog from a street vendor. Culture lovers will be in art heaven too, discovering the treasures of the Guggenheim, MoMA and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
No NYC holidays are complete without visiting one of the other boroughs though. Take the free ferry to Staten Island, or stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge over the East River.
Whether it’s Uptown, Downtown, daytime or night-time, our New York city breaks will give you an authentic bite of the Big Apple.
What are the best places to visit in New York
Midtown
In the heart of Manhattan, as its name suggests, it’s a great place to begin any New York tours. Marvel at the city from above, with both the Empire State Building and Rockefeller Center to be found here. It’s easy to get your architecture fix at ground level too, from the Chrysler Building and Flatiron Building to the imposing Grand Central Terminal. Save time to explore MoMA (the Museum of Modern Art) or browse the designer labels on 5th Avenue and nearby Macy’s before recovering in style over afternoon tea at the elegant Plaza Hotel, a celebrity favourite.

Greenwich Village
The creative soul of New York, Greenwich Village is made for lazy days strolling the tree-lined streets. Don’t miss Washington Square Park, where there’s always art and music to discover, generations after the beat poets made this neighbourhood a counter-culture hotspot. There are still jazz clubs and off-Broadway theatres among the brownstone buildings, used as filming locations for shows including Friends and Sex And The City. The Village’s restaurants attract as many locals as tourists, while it’s always tempting to take a stroll on the High Line, an elevated park built on a disused train line, which runs north towards Chelsea.

Central Park
The green heart of the city, Central Park stretches over 840 acres, running for 2.5 miles from end to end. The most visited city park in the USA, it’s home to a zoo, several lakes, a castle and the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well. If you want a leafy escape from the busy streets, your New York holidays should include at least one visit. A short walk from the Met lies the Guggenheim, to discover two of the city’s best art museums in one day, or the miniature Belvedere Castle, all at the northern end of the park.

Statue of Liberty
The iconic symbol of freedom, a visit to the Statue of Liberty is often the highlight of a New York touring holiday. Often combined with a visit to Ellis Island, where so many New Yorkers began their lives in America, the National Museum of Immigration is an insight into the realities of life in the land of the free. Prebook tickets if you’d like to visit the statue’s pedestal or snap up one of the coveted tickets to the crown, or simply enjoy the sight of Lady Liberty from the water.

Spring and autumn, especially the months of May and September are often the best times to explore for dry weather without the high temperatures of July and August.
When is the best time to visit New York?
There’s rarely a bad time to visit New York. Visit in the run-up to the Christmas period and while the city will be cold, there’s plenty of festive fun to be had during the holiday season. Visiting in spring sees sunnier days but without the heat of summer, while there’s the chance to enjoy the autumn colours as well as dry days for sightseeing in September and early autumn. The city is always popular, but planning New York touring holidays outside US (and UK) school holiday times will help avoid some of the crowds too.

An easy way to calculate the tip is to double the sales tax. Bartenders would normally expect a $1 tip for every drink they serve, while if anyone helps with your bags, you’d be expected to tip them a similar amount, as well as for hotel housekeeping per night.
Is New York safe?
NYC is the safest big city in the US, according to crime statistics. Like any major city, it pays to take sensible precautions, especially against pickpockets, and to stick to the main tourist areas.
