Extraordinary Egypt tours
From the ancient splendours of Cairo to the natural beauty of the River Nile, our Egypt tours have plenty to offer those looking to get under the skin of this fascinating country. Choose a relaxed river cruise on a sleek, modern ship, step back in time aboard a traditional Egyptian dahabiya or combine a cruise with a few days exploring the sights around the capital, Cairo. Whichever option you choose, you’ll be awestruck by Egypt’s rich history and culture.
In the north of the country, you’ll find Cairo, Giza and Alexandria – three destinations that offer an amazing insight into the ancient world. Here, you can gaze up at the incredible Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx, look out to where the Lighthouse of Alexandria supposedly once stood, and explore museums filled with treasures from the time of Tutankhamun.
Trace your finger south on the map and you’ll hit Luxor, starting point for cruises on the River Nile – Egypt’s ‘lifeblood’. Journey along this mighty waterway and you’ll enjoy even more insight into Ancient Egypt. Holiday highlights include the Valley of the Kings, the double temple of Kom Ombo and the island Temple of Philae.

What our experts love about Egypt
There is nowhere else on earth to compare with Egypt. It offers such a unique depth of ancient history that is beyond parallel. When entering the ancient sites it's like walking onto a movie set with huge temples and underground tombs - you then have to remind yourself that this is real.
What are the best places to visit in Egypt?
Must-see sights in Egypt include the Pyramids of Giza, the Temple of Luxor, the Temple of Karnak and of course the spectacular Valley of the Kings. All our escorted tours in Egypt include a package of handpicked excursions to key sights, although these do vary between itineraries.
Cairo
Egypt's capital is a must-visit destination for an introduction to the country's ancient history. Take in the iconic sight of the Giza Pyramids - one of the greatest world wonders - as well as other attractions such as the 12th-century Citadel of Salahal-Din and the 19th-century Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha. You can’t travel to Cairo and not haggle for bargains at the Khan el-Khalili bazaar and see some of Egypt's most significant artefacts and treasures at the Egyptian Museum, where exhibits include items discovered by Howard Carter in King Tutankhamen's tomb.

Luxor
Luxor is home to an impressive array of ancient monuments, structures and sites, and features on all of our Egypt tours. The Valley of the Kings harbours tombs belonging to kings and noblemen who died between the 16th and 11th centuries BC, including Tutankhamen. The Valley of the Queens is where you’ll find the resting places of pharaohs' wives and princesses, with the tomb of Nefertari - wife of Ramses - being the most popular. Nearby lies Deir El Bahri, Queen Hatshepsut's mortuary temple, along with the awe-inspiring Colossi of Memnon. Other highlights in Luxor include the Temple of Luxor and Temple of Karnak – two of the most significant historic sites in Egypt.

Alexandria
The Pearl of the Mediterranean offers the perfect combination of historic attractions and coastal beauty. Established in 331 BC by Alexander the Great, Alexandria is home to Pompey's Pillar, a massive Roman column measuring more than 20 metres in height. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina offers a wonderful contrast to the traditional architecture that populates the city; its newest building was built in 2002 and is the world's largest reading space. Those intrigued by the story of Antony and Cleopatra might find particular interest in a visit to Alexandria – the seas around the city are believed to be the location of the submerged remains of the mausoleum that the queen built for herself.

Is Egypt safe to visit?
Egypt is one of the world’s must-see destinations, and visiting on an escorted tour is one of the safest ways to holiday to experience this extraordinary country and its ancient treasures. We plan our tours very carefully to avoid unsafe areas and we constantly check government travel advice in case things change. However just as you would in many other parts of the world, we recommend you take precautions and are wary of pickpocketing, especially in busy areas. Make sure your bag has a secure zip and wear it across your body, and avoid walking alone at night or going into areas not recommended by your tour manager.

Although Modern Standard Arabic is the official language in Egypt, the vast majority of Egyptians speak Egyptian Arabic. English is also widely spoken, especially in the main tourist areas.
