Spectacular USA national park tours
The USA’s national parks are places where the natural landscape takes centre stage. There are 63 of them in total, covering more than 200,000 square kilometres of land – if you’re looking for untamed wilderness, you’ll be well catered for.
As you’d expect from a country as large as the States, the landscapes in these national parks are incredibly diverse. You could cruise through mountain-edged fjords and past colossal glaciers in Alaska’s Glacier Bay National Park; admire powerful geysers in Yellowstone; or soak up the photo-worthy scenery in Yosemite.
For a simple circuit that takes in some of the best national parks in the USA, head for the south-west. You can easily tick off a collection of wonderful spots, from the Grand Canyon and Zion to Arches and Bryce Canyon (our flagship USA national park tour follows this route – it’s one of our most popular American holidays).
Whether you want to hit several national parks in your trip or you just fancy ticking one or two of as part of a wider adventure in the US, our award-winning tours make the whole experience effortless. The Great Outdoors is closer than you think...

What our experts love about USA national parks
Each national park has its own special feature. A particular favourite of mine is Yellowstone's most famous geyser, Old Faithful. You can also spy some incredible wildlife – in Zion National Park, for example, you can often see the California Condor perched on or soaring above Angel's Landing - truly a sight to behold!
What are the best USA national parks to visit?
The oldest US national park is Yellowstone, which sprawls across the wilds of Wyoming (and inches into the neighbouring states of Montana and Idaho). Yellowstone’s biggest draw is its volcanic features: erupting geysers, hot springs and steaming mud pots. Keep your eyes peeled for the local residents, too – Yellowstone is home to grizzlies, wolves and huge herds of bison.

Grand Canyon National Park
One of the most popular picks for national parks in the US is Arizona's Grand Canyon. The numbers are impressive (277 miles long, 18 miles wide and a mile deep in places), but nothing can prepare you for seeing it up close and personal. Stroll along the rim and peer down into the depths, or take to the skies and admire this geological marvel from the air on an unforgettable helicopter or plane ride.

Yosemite National Park
Journey into California's interior and you’ll discover the verdant and diverse Yosemite National Park. Nestled in the Sierra Nevada, Yosemite is vast, and features raging rivers, thick forests, open plains and jagged mountains. The park promises dramatic natural scenery at every turn, and is home to the magnificent giant sequoia tree - with trunks tall and wide enough to drive a car through.

New Mexico’s White Sands National Park is something of geological wonder. It protects a vast swathe of the world’s largest gypsum dunefield – stand atop one of the dunes and you’ll see rippling white sands as far as the eye can see. Palaeontologists have found prints from giant sloths and Columbian mammoths here, although these days the animals you’re most likely to see are snakes,...

Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve
Glacier Bay is part of a huge UNESCO-protected wilderness, and sprawls over more than three million acres. A highlight of Alaskan cruises, voyages through Glacier Bay showcase fjords, forests, mountains and (of course) glaciers. Look out for wildlife, too: bears and mountain goats along the shoreline, seals and sea lions in the water, and bald eagles in the skies.

Most are, but there may be times when some parks close due to extreme weather conditions, particularly in areas that can get very snowy and icy in the wintertime. You can check the latest on the official website; if you’re on one of our USA national park escorted tours, your tour manager will keep you up-to-date if there are any changes to the planned itinerary due to closures.
What are the general rules when visiting a USA national park?
The big one is to follow the ‘leave no trace’ principles – ensuring you leave the park in the condition you found it. There are specific rules set out by each park’s rangers, which you can find on the national parks service website.
